MISSION
Ann Bellomy and I talked about starting the Guest Room/Hostel idea a few months ago as the housing situation became worse. More foreclosures, made rental properties drop in price. After advertising for several months, we decided to create "something WE could stay in" if we were traveling.
We also decided to welcome one or two persons who need assisted living and will give them the attention and support needed right up to 24/7 care. Contact us for our brochure.
We came up with the idea of creating a variety of rooms that will accommodate folks who just want a bed and shower (the hostel) all the way up to the Master Suite which is a beautiful Oriental Art Deco room with a private bath. The second room of the suite is a foyer with hospitality and another twin bed.
And although Ann or I are neither extensive travelers, at least not in the classic sense of the idea, so we are creating something we think we would like to stay in if we were traveling through Northern Virginia, to the Blue Ridge and the Shenandoah National Park or visiting the Capital.
In addition to providing 'steam cleaned' rooms we are working very hard to earn our GREEN CERTIFICATE.
We recycled furniture, either from auctions or thrift stores.
We found our all natural rugs at auctions, many with natural dyes.
We offer coffee from our local roasters, Free Trade and Organic decaf.
We use 7th generation paper products and soaps.
Our little Bioholistic Store hosts organic, wild crafted, and free trade products.
Veges are obtained locally from our CSA.
Local organic farmers provide free range meats and fresh milk.
Wood for our stoves is provided by local woodsmen.
We love our Rappahannock County and feel that there has gathered a special group of citizens who love the Earth, even as they disagree about politics.
We are friendly people who enjoy our visitors, some who return season after season, year after year. Stop by the next time you drive through and see what we are doing, I'm Elizabeth and if it's warm I'll probably be in the garden out back. If Miss Ann isn't working at the Engham House she will be across the street at her little house at 38 Main Street.
